Thanks SO much to Silvia who has toiled for months on the new and updated yearbooks while supporting her husband in his recovery. We appreciate your efforts. Arts In January, CWC will be holding an Art Fair. Lillian and Betty want as many members as possible to participate. Review the attached Arts Festival document and see if you can bring at least one item to the General Meeting. Only photography must be done in the last year. Other entries can be older as long as they have never been submitted before. First place winners will be submitted to the district fair in February. Winners then go to the State meeting in April. We need your participation! Contact Lillian Smith if you have any questions. Conservation Uli Gratzi will present our program today on Honey Bees. In addition to designing our Page-Walker Pollinator Garden, and volunteering with us to keep it going, Uli is also a passionate volunteer with Apiopolis, a nonprofit bee sanctuary in Raleigh. This sanctuary received the 2017 Raleigh Environmental Award for an Emerging Business that promotes natural and sustainable beekeeping practices with a focus on conservation. Under Apiopolis, Raleigh has become a ÒBee CityÓ. Maybe Cary can become one too? Lois will also announce the date of the Fall Gardening day to put the garden to bed for the winter. Education and Home Life Please sign up with the Education CSP to volunteer your time at Kingswood Elementary School, to work with the Scholarship Program, and/or to help with Note in the Pocket. DonÕt forget you must go to Kingswood or another Wake County school and fill out a short on-line form to get a background check before working in the school. Please see Maryanne or Mary-Mel for more information. This month, Jane and Nell are joining the Education CSP in sponsoring A Day of Service on October 12. Please contact Mary-Mel ASAP if you have not already signed up. Public Issues and Domestic Violence We are collecting new and/or gently used costumes for the Interact Fall Festival. Costumes must be fun not ÒfearfulÓ. There is special need for costumes for children 10+. Second hand stores such as Kid to Kid or Once Upon a Child are great places to find costumes, as well as asking your grandchildren. Bring your contribution to the Oct. 11 meeting or contact Elzbieta Hibbs to arrange pick-up. Deadline to get costumes to Elzbieta is October 22. In early December, we are once again supporting InteractÕs Holiday Bazaar. We will be using our allotted funds, but it will not be enough. So please bring new items to the next two meetings, such as socks, scarfs, kitchen items, journals, etc. that we will need to complete the baskets. ItÕs also not too early to sign up for the February prison visit. See sign ups on the back table. Membership and Hospitality One of our main goals for this Club year is to increase membership! Please consider signing up to help the Membership Committee achieve this goal. Diane is also heading Hospitality. She needs help with the Holiday Luncheon at Prestonwood, especially in securing entertainment. Sign up at the back table with Hospitality and/or Membership. September 15 to October 15 is National Hispanic Heritage Month. So we will be going to Totopos to enjoy some Mexican Street Food after the meeting. In November, we will once again attend the Cary Page RotaryÕs spaghetti lunch/dinner after the meeting. They support some of the charities we help, including the Boys and Girls Home of NC. You may also begin bringing your checks for the Holiday Luncheon. Give checks to Carol French, beginning October 11. Cost is now being confirmed and Diane will announce it at the meeting. Announcements The Friends of the Page-Walker Hotel are partnering with the Town of Cary to offer 50minute Historic Trolley Tours of Cary on Sunday, November 4 at 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM, and 3:00 PM from the parking lot of Page-Walker.
