Activities:
Cary Woman’s Club is finding many ways to keep giving to the community in spite of the restrictions during the pandemic. Here’s a sampling of some things we have done or are doing:
- March 2021 – Members donated snacks, water, stamps, soap and gift cards to the USO, a whole car load of goodies.
- Cary Gifting Tree – The tree this year, which was located around the fountain in town, was a collaboration with Note in the Pocket. The project was a great success generating over $2000 in donations to Note in the Pocket. See pictures here.
- Holiday Giving – Members and the club made donations to three groups (Interact, The Carying Place, and Esteamed Coffee) instead of attending our annual holiday luncheon.
- Although we couldn’t have the fashion show this year, we were still able to make a donation to the Center For Volunteer Caregiving because some who bought tickets and a benefactor allowed us to keep all or a part of the money given for the fashion show. See a picture of the presentation on June 24.
- Gave scholarships to two impressive high school students who will attend UNC Chapel Hill in the fall.
- Donated a Mature Woman Scholarship for a Wake Tech student.
- On June 26, we participated in a Virtual Clothing Drive to benefit Note in the Pocket. Many bags of clothes were taken for this donation which was given along with a monetary grant.
- One member helps maintain the pollinator garden at Page-Walker.
- Drop off goodies to Chatham Commons Assisted Living since we had to stop sponsoring the bingo games for the time being.
- New or lightly used sheets and towels are being collected for a September donation to Oxford House.
- One member arranges flowers donated by Trader Joe’s to create weekly arrangements to brighten the halls of Glenaire Retirement Home.
- October 7 truckloads of food donated to benefit the Dorcas Ministries Food Pantry
- December 2021 – Cary Woman’s Club partnership with Note in the Pocket on the Cary Gifting Tree Project resulted in $3,600 in donations for Note in the Pocket to help school children dress for success.
